A four-hour commitment may not seem that long when you are smiling, shaking hands, and snapping pics, but trust us—it’s enough to make you hungry. And in the words of the Snickers slogan, “You’re not you when you’re hungry.”

The client you are representing is expecting high energy and a positive attitude, not a hungry, hungry hippo. Avoid that situation by always bringing a snack. It’s important before you pack to know if there will be a fridge or microwave available. We suggest bringing foods that don’t require either, that way you are still prepared. Below is a list of the easiest, healthy snacks for you to pack to your gig.

Nuts or Trail Mix

Peanut Butter

Foods high in healthy fats are going to give you quick, long-lasting energy. Of the macronutrient options of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, fat packs the most energy per gram—which is why they have so many calories. Bring a package of nuts or trail mix and some peanut butter to go with your apple slices for a quick, easy snack.

Fruit

Veggies

Fruits and vegetables are examples of carbs that will increase your energy. These carbs take a little longer to break down, and while they do, they help stabilize your blood sugar, which balances your energy levels. Plus, it’s easy to grab an apple when you’re on the go or to bring a baggie of baby carrots. They don’t take too long to eat and are healthier for you than a five-hour energy.

Seed Cracker/Rice Cakes

Granola Bars

Dry Cereal

These options contain more grain and flavors. If you are craving something a bit sweeter, granola bars give you a little more freedom as many of them have chocolate or peanut butter options.

All of these snacks are easy to prepare, inexpensive, and quick to eat. And if you have to hurry back to the job, you can easily save them for later without them going bad. They don’t require refrigeration, and, depending on flavors and seasonings, you won’t have bad breath after—though maybe pack a mint too. Whatever you choose, make sure you have a snack just in case; you never know when hunger will strike.
