Getting Motivated

Schedule, schedule, schedule. Life is so much easier when you just put your decision-making on autopilot. Time blocking your entire life will help you follow through with your goals regardless of your motivation levels. Here are some examples of how to implement a routine into your life to help you get motivated.

  • Exercise more consistently and use the same warm-up routine. Studies show that regular exercise has been proven to reduce stress, and boost self-esteem and improve sleep. Which can translate to you feeling happier, healthier, and more motivated.
  • Wake up on the stress-free side of the bed: meditate for five minutes every morning.
  • Start a creative ritual before starting your main task. This could be something like singing or drawing a quick picture.
  • Stay consistent with your nighttime routine.

The biggest downfall of getting motivated is deciding when to get started. Having a game plan with proper, prior, preparation will help in executing your goals. When goals are crossed off your to-do list, the motivation will continue to accomplish future tasks.

Staying Motivated

The key to staying motivated is picking the right porridge. By this, I mean utilizing the Goldilocks Rule. Humans love challenges, but only if they are within our capabilities. Tasks that are extremely below your abilities are boring. Tasks that are beyond your abilities can be discouraging. If we start with tasks that skirt the edge between success and failure, we find ourselves being much more motivated to complete them.

Not too hard, not too easy, just right. This is the key to staying motivated. If you find yourself becoming unmotivated, maybe you have drifted into an area of boredom with your task. Or on the flip side, you find a task too daunting and don’t want to begin.

Always try to make tasks achievable but challenging. That is the key to staying motivated. Have you ever had a task that you put off for weeks because you couldn’t find the motivation and then once you do, it takes you 3 minutes to complete? Yeah, me too.
